To All Concerned for Safety:
Many safety concerns face us every day. Yet in the midst of bids, deadlines, equipment
failures, schedules and production, safety sometimes gets pushed to the back burner. When
we do this, production can and will suffer.
Employees can work better and smarter when properly prepared for work, including safety
gear. Production increases when better planning includes safety measures for all aspects of
the job. Deadlines are more reachable when incidents, accidents and planning the
afterthoughts of safety are minimized. If employees are not getting hurt, they are able
to stay on the job and be more productive. If equipment is not damaged, it can continue to
produce maximum output. Morale increases when employees feel their employer is looking out
for their safety, and thus are more productive. Your insurance premiums also decrease, when
there are less incidents and accidents.
So you see, working safety into production enhances production. It does not hinder it.
Yes, safety gear costs money. But what is the cost of a $3.00 pair of safety glasses to a
$300.00 eye injury? Or the cost of training an employee on proper lifting versus a back
injury that causes a permanent disabling injury? Or the cost of a life?
There are several areas in safety that everyone in construction should be concerned with.
Underground utilities and traffic control, if improperly handled can lead to disastrous and
deadly results. Please look further in our web page or onto the links we have available to
find out more about these and other safety topics.
